摘要:
Analysis of 155 individuals with seven polymorphic microsatellite DNA markers showed significant genetic differentiation between the only three remaining subpopulations of the globally, critically-endangered Taita thrush. Small, recently-disturbed subpopulations such as studied here may violate the assumptions of mutation-drift and gene flow-drift equilibrium inherent to most population genetic tools that estimate gene flow. We therefore identified putative dispersers using two recently-developed assignment tests based on individual genotypes. Previous-generation and current migration rates between any two subpopulations were estimated at one and zero individuals per generation, respectively. Strong congruence with non-genetic estimates of between-fragment dispersal provided indirect evidence for the accuracy of the assignment test. From a conservation perspective, the available demographic and genetic data suggest a substantial threat to the long-term survival of at least the smallest subpopulation.
