The standard (p° = 0.1 MPa) molar enthalpies of combustion in oxygen at the temperature 298.15 K of the two bromonaphthalenes to form CO 2 (g), H 2 O(l), and Br 2 (l) were measured by rotating-bomb calorimetry. The standard molar enthalpy of sublimation at the temperature 198.15 K of 2-bromonaphthalene was measured by microcalorimetry. [[formula]] The derived standard molar enthalpies of formation of the gaseous compounds were compared with values estimated assuming the enthalpy increment for substitution of bromine in the 1-and 2-positions of naphthalene to be the same as for substitution of bromine benzene. © 1993 Academic Press Ltd.
