THERMAL-STABILITY, CRYSTALLOGRAPHIC AND ELECTRICAL-PROPERTIES IN UNDOPED AND BA-DOPED CU-NI MANGANITE SPINELS

摘要
The thermal stability, crystallographic and electrical properties were measured for undoped and Ba-doped Ni2/3Mn7/3-xCu(x)O4 (0 < x < 0.60) as a function of temperature. The results on ground samples showed a remarkable stability in air over the temperature interval 100 < T < 800-degrees-C, and it is concluded that in these spinels the copper is present predominantly in the Cu2+ valence state on tetrahedral sites. The analysis of electrical and thermoelectric power data indicated that the conduction was due to p-type carriers of a localized nature with a charge hopping between Mn4+ and Mn3+ ions on octahedral sites. For samples with a large amount of copper ions and doped with barium ions, the electrical conductivity slightly decreases, but the stability is improved by the presence of precipitated phases such as BaMnO3.
