TOWARD EMPIRICAL-STUDIES ON UNIVERSITY ETHICS - A NEW ROLE FOR INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH

Upon reviewing the 1950-91 higher education literature and a recent survey on empirical research of corporate ethical behavior, the author underscores the university's serious information deficit on its own ethical behavior and suggests university self-improvement through the following means: (1) a new institutional research role to conduct empirical studies on the university's moral behavior: (2) a university ethics committee to cybernetically induce morally sensitive behavior.
