DISSOCIATIVE CHEMISORPTION OF O-2 ON CU(100) - EFFECTS OF MECHANICAL ENERGY-TRANSFER AND RECOIL

摘要
By using molecular beams we determine two specific scaling laws for the dissociative sticking of O-2 On Cu(100). It is shown that the interaction process involves transfer of mechanical energy which is characteristic of a classical binary collision. It is demonstrated that the transfer of mechanical energy results in lattice recoil during the collision which has a dramatic effect on the measured sticking probability.
