EVIDENCE FROM VIBRATIONAL SPECTROSCOPY FOR CLUSTER AND TISSUE PSEUDOPHASES IN GLASS

摘要
Vibrational spectroscopy provides evidence for different cation environments in alkali borate glasses as required by the cluster-bypass model. In particular, the broad low-frequency component of the far infrared spectrum points up the existence of the connective tissue, which provides the preferred pathways for ion migration. The high-frequency component, on the other hand, arises from vibrations of cations localised within relatively compact regions or pseudophases.
