Seborrheic dermatitis (SD) (synonyms: seborrheic eczema, pityrosporosis, dermatitis of the sebaceous areas, morbus Unna) is a common cause of red face in adults. Dermatologic researchers have long neglected SD despite its frequency. Recently, however, they have renewed their interest by rediscovering the role of pityrosporon ovale and the peculiar frequency of SD in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected and psychiatric patients. © 1993.
