摘要
Interpretation of high-resolution electron-energy-loss (HREEL) spectra is dependent on knowledge of the applicable selection rules and therefore on the scattering mechanism involved. HREEL spectra from hydrogen-terminated C(100) demonstrate that impact scattering is the dominant mechanism and that dipole selection rules are not valid on this surface. We discuss reasons for the dominance of impact scattering and implications for the interpretation of HREEL spectra from diamond. © 1994 The American Physical Society.
