摘要
An instrument is described for the discrimination and sizing of airborne fibres with a view to monitoring asbestos contamination in workshop atmospheres. The method of fibre discrimination relies on detecting a change in the state of polarisation induced by elongated particles. The size is obtained from scattered intensity. With the present arrangement diameter can be measured down to 0.5 mu m, but the smallest fibre size that can be discriminated is limited by noise to 1 mu m.
