A novel carbon-carbon bond-forming reaction between indole and beta,beta-disubstituted allylic alcohols in lithium perchlorate-diethyl ether containing a catalytic amount of a Bronsted acid is described; the reaction has been applied to a total synthesis of yuehchukene.
