Interdiffusion and segregation in the growth of thin Fe films on Ag(100): An ARUPS-MDS study

Thin (10 ML) Fe films grown on Ag(100) at substrate temperatures in the range 150-600 K have been studied by Angle Resolved Ultraviolet Photoemission and Metastable Deexcitation Spectroscopies. Intermixing is observed in the whole range of temperature under investigation. The data suggest an exchange diffusion process for growth at temperatures lower than 250 K. Ag segregation is relevant already at room temperature. A partially ordered Ag film covers the surface for growth at temperatures greater than 250 K.
