EFFECTS OF MEASUREMENT METHODS ON THE PROPERTIES OF MATERIALS

Different methods have been suggested for the determination of the compressional properties of materials. The Heckel equation has been suggested as a method which may be useful for this purpose. However, the manner in which the measurements for the determination of the Heckel plot are made and the method of deformation of the material may affect the shape of the Heckel plot. The results show that the materials which deform by plastic deformation have different Heckel plots, depending whether the measurements were made outside of the die or as the material was being compressed (true dynamic method). However, brittle fracture materials displayed identical Heckel plots, despite the different methods of measurement. No differences in Heckel plots could be detected between maximal force methods and true dynamic methods.
