AXIAL RESOLUTION IN THE FIBEROPTIC CONFOCAL SCANNING MICROSCOPE USING ANNULAR LENSES

摘要
For a fibre-optical confocal scanning microscope using annular lenses, axial resolution is investigated for both non-fluorescent and fluorescent imaging. It is shown that in the latter case the axial resolution can be made improved by altering the central obstruction radius to a value which is related to the fibre spot size, while this kind of improvements does not occur in the former case. The optimum relationship of the central obstruction radius of the lenses to the fibre spot size is discussed.
