ANOMALOUS TEMPERATURE-DEPENDENCE OF THE ELECTROMAGNETIC PENETRATION DEPTH OF Y1BA2CU3O7-DELTA CRYSTALS

We report radio-frequency surface-impedance measurements on high-quality single crystals of Y1Ba2Cu3O7-delta, which exhibit a very sharp superconducting transition (Delta T<0.3 K). We found a frequency dependence neither of the skin depth in the normal state delta(n) nor of lambda(T). The temperature dependence of the electromagnetic penetration depth lambda(T) determined from these data is in agreement with the two-gap BCS dependence with 2 Delta(0)/k(B)T similar or equal to 2.2 and 7.9 for low- and high-temperature limits, respectively, in contrast to the square and linear laws in T observed so far and expected from d wave pairing.
