The fluorescence and second harmonic generation properties of Nd3+ doped LaBGeO5 have been investigated. The stimulated cross-section for the 1.048 mum laser line has been estimated from polarized spectra. Site-selective spectroscopy shows the existence of a single crystal field site for Nd3+ ions. A 3.3% conversion efficiency (1.06 --> 0.532 mum) was obtained for a rod of length 8.5 mm at a fundamental input intensity of 200 MW/cm2.
