STUDY OF XANES AS USED FOR DETERMINING THE NEAR-NEIGHBOR DISTANCES IN SOME COBALT SYSTEMS

X-ray cobalt K-absorption edges in the cobalt systems CoO, CoAl2O4, CoMoO4, Co(NO3)2 . 6 H2O, Co(C2H3O2)2 . 4 H2O, bieberite (CoSO4 mineral form), CoSO4 - 7 H2O, Co(CHO2)2 . 2 H2O are studied using a Cauchois-type X-ray spectrograph. The three XANES structures A, B, and C are observed in the spectra of these systems. The formula, proposed by Mahto and Chetal, is applied to XANES structures A and C to determine the near-neighbour distance in the above systems. The results obtained agree fairly well with the crystallographic values.
