摘要
The self-bonding potential of various high hemicellulose-content lignocellulosic materials was investigated by acid-catalyzed thermal conversion to furan products. Small particleboard-like specimens were prepared from raw materials in the sawdust form using a catalyst of ammonium sulphate and ammonium chloride. The bending strengths of the specimens were directly proportional to the pentosan content of the raw material used. Feed corn cob was used to produce additional specimens to determine the effects of the pressing variables on the bonding processes occurring. Plywood was produced with aspen veneer using a liquid adhesive based on the concentrated hemicellulose extract from feed corn cobs. The extracted corn cobs were ground to a powder to use as a filler. Good dry shear strengths developed but waterproof bonds were not produced.
