DETERMINATION OF ALLOYING ELEMENTS AND TRACE TITANIUM IN 2.25CR-1MO STEEL BY GLOW-DISCHARGE MASS-SPECTROMETRY

The concentrations of alloying elements (Cr, Mo, Al, V, Nb and Ta) and trace Ti were determined in 2.25Cr-1Mo steel using glow discharge mass spectrometry with a mass resolution of 5000. New values of relative sensitivity factors were determined from calibration curves based on NIST standard reference materials. Spectral interferences for Ti, due to doubly charged ionic species of matrix-argide or Mo, were studied and a correction using abundance ratios was applied. The analytical results obtained for a variety of steel samples showed excellent agreement with results based on "chemical analysis", i.e. flame atomic absorption spectrometry or absorption spectrophotometry. © 1992.
