摘要：

S. occidentalis in the Mojave desert are inactive for approximately 100 days in the winter during which time they consume energy equivalent to only 1% of their body weight in lipids. As the length of winter inactivity increases with latitude, because of the concurrent reduction in temperature, winter metabolism probably does not increase significantly.
