In the absence of air, o-aminophenol and o-aminothiophenol complexes of nickel(II) and palladium(II) are deprotonated by potassium amide in liquid ammonia and form potassium salts of the corresponding anions. These salts react with water to regenerate the parent complexes and with methyl iodide to form S-, O-, and N-methylated derivatives. © 1968, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
