A series of new functionally substituted (eta(5)-cyclopentadienyl)titanium trichlorides and triisopropoxides are described. (eta(5)-Pentaphenylcyclopentadienyl)- (1)- and (eta(5)-diphenylphosphinylcyclopentadienyl)tit triisopropoxide (2) have been obtained in good yield from reactions of (C(5)Ph(5))Na and (C(5)H(4)PPh(2))Li, respectively, with chlorotitanium triisopropoxide. Treatment of 1 with hydrogen chloride in refluxing toluene forms (eta 5-pentaphenylcyclopentadienyl)titanium trichloride (6) in quantitative yield. (eta(5)-N,N-Dimethylaminocyclopentadienyl)titanium trichloride is produced in 54% yield from a reaction between equimolar amounts of (C(5)H(4)NMe(2))Li and titanium tetrachloride in pentane solution. A reaction between titanium tetrachloride and carbomethoxytrimethylsilylcyclopentadien formed from (C(5)H(4)CO(2)Me)Na and C1SiMe(3), produces (eta(5)-carbomethoxycyclopentadienyl)titanium trichloride in 78% yield.
