摘要
As Eli Burstein's student, I learned from him the value of intuition, of spirited discussion of physics ideas, and of simple but deep models. These lessons took firm hold in my research career. Simple classical models play a major role in one of my interests, the far infrared (20-1,000 cm-1) properties of solids. I give an appreciation of Eli's methods, followed by a survey of my use of models to analyze a variety of far infrared data from bulk and microstructure III-V, II-VI and IV-VI semiconductors.
