摘要
Texture formation is a general feature in the growth of thick metallic films by vacuum techniques (evaporation, sputtering) as well as liquid phase deposition (electrolytic, electroless). The formation of a texture from randomly oriented nuclei on the substrate indicates that we are dealing with a selection-like process for the evolution of preferred orientations. We analyze the 'survival of the fastest' model with respect to both consistency and confrontation with experiment and give an alternative approach to explain experimentally observed textures.
