Y2O3 SINGLE CRYSTALLINE SUBSTRATE FOR EPITAXIAL-GROWTH OF HIGH-TC SUPERCONDUCTING THIN-FILMS

The c-axis oriented YBa2Cu3Ox (YBCO) film has to our knowledge been epitaxially grown on Y2O3 (001) substrates by in situ processing for the first time. The in-plane orientation relationship between YBCO and Y2O3 is <110>YBCO\\<100>Y2O3. The film exhibits, as deposited, T(C)0 = 86.2 K, DELTA-T = 1.2 K; J(C) = 1.4 x 10(7), and 2.0 x 10(6) A/cm2 in a magnetic field of 0 and 5 T at 5 K, respectively. Moreover, the interface between the YBCO and Y2O3 is very sharp and chemically stable.
