Nucleation and growth of gold on polypyrrole investigated by quantitative XPS and STM

摘要
The growth of thin films of gold on doped polypyrrole was investigated using quantitative X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and scanning tunneling microscopy. Our analysis reveals a droplet-like growth at a constant contact angle. This behavior can be explained by the different surface energies involved and the high mobility of gold at room temperature. We demonstrate the high sensitivity of quantitative XPS for the detection of the island's shape and nucleation density.
