METATHESIS ROUTES TO TIN AND LEAD CHALCOGENIDES

摘要
Thermal initiation (550 degrees C) of a mixture of SnI4 and Li(2)E produces SnE(2) (E = O, S, Se). Similarly, PbCl2, and Li(2)E' produces PbE' (E' = O, S, Se, Te) via an exothermic solid state metathesis reaction. The PbE' and SnE(2) compounds were characterized by microanalysis, SEM/EDAX, FT-IR spectroscopy, magnetic moment measurements, X-ray powder diffraction and, in the case of tin, by solid state NMR.
