摘要
Shape change transitions of elastically misfitting inclusions are predicted to occur when the inclusions are softer than the matrix. Below the size where the transition occurs, the shape is dictated by minimizing interfacial energy without regard to the elastic contribution. Transitions analogous to a second-order phase transition are predicted for an isotropic two-dimensional or plane-strain case, while transitions analogous to first-order phase transitions are predicted for an isotropic three-dimensional case.
