AMPEROMETRIC RESPONSE OF CIRCULAR SOLID ELECTRODES IN THIN-LAYER FLOW CHANNELS

The amperometric responses are investigated theoretically and experimentally for an electrode with circular geometry on one wall of a thin-layer channel under both steady-state flow conditions and liquid chromatographic conditions. A solid electrode is treated under conditions of negligible diffusion in the plane of flow. The response of this electrode is predicted to be 84.13% of that for a square solid electrode of the same length and width under steady-state conditions, and experimentally confirmed. The current response model for a solid electrode under liquid chromatographic conditions derived by Prabhu and Anderson is modified to allow convenient, rapid analysis. Liquid chromatographic experiments allow facile prediction of the steady-state response and vice versa. The theoretical predictions of current agree well with experimental results.
