摘要
The petrographic composition of coal may influence the utilization behaviour of a coal, often manifest as differences in intrinsic or behavioural characteristics when compared to coals of the same rank but differing in petrographic composition. However, in addition to petrographic composition differences, the geological history of coal also appears to affect the chemistry and utilization behaviour of coals of various origin. This work discusses the relevance of 'provincialism' within the field of pulverized coal combustion, focusing upon the characteristics of chars formed during pyrolysis at 1273 +/- 5 K using an entrained flow reactor. Various relationships are presented and discussed between petrographic composition (as microlithotypes), the calorific value, coal rank and associated char type, culminating in a relationship that may serve as the basis of a predictive model.
