摘要
A ceramics tunneling unit and a cryostat are newly designed for variable-temperature experiments of scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy (STM/STS) at low temperatures. The unit has high symmetry and rigidity. Coarse adjustment of sample-tip position is made using a ceramics differential screw and a stacked piezoelectric transducer, attached to the unit. The unit is succesfully tested at room and low temperatures in He gas, not directly being immersed into cryogenes. The stability is suitable also for STS measurements using a lock-in amplifier. © 1990, American Vacuum Society. All rights reserved.
