摘要
Dimple formation in thin liquid film's is examined and a criterion for the transition between non-dimpled and dimpled films is established. A simple equation for the rate of thinning is derived which illuminates the role of the dimple in the rate of drainage. While the equation is valid under restricted conditions, it explains qualitatively the apparent discrepancy between experimental results and some numerical simulations. The former indicate that the rate of thinning of dimpled films is greater than that provided by the Reynolds equation and the latter indicate that it is smaller.
