MAGNETIC AND STRUCTURAL STUDIES OF EPITAXIAL (001)-FE AND (001)-FEXCO1-X ALLOY FILM STRUCTURES

Molecular beam epitaxy has been used to fabricate Fe/Al/Fe(001) trilayers and FexCo1-x(001) alloy films on ZnSe-epilayered GaAs(001) substrates. A temperature dependence study of the 90-degrees coupling in Fe/Al/Fe trilayers indicated a rapid decrease in coupling strength (B-12) with increasing temperature. Also, the magnetic properties of (001) FexCo1-x alloy films spanning both the thermodynamically allowed bcc regime from 0.25 < x less-than-or-equal-to 1 and the epitaxy-extended metastable bcc regime from 0 less-than-or-equal-to x less-than-or-equal-to 0.25 are reported.
