AS-WELDED, LOW TEMPERATURE SENSITIZED AND FURNACE SENSITIZED 304 HAS BEEN STUDIED UNDER TWO CONDITIONS OF POTENTIAL CONTROL: VARIABLE ADDITIONS OF OXYGEN AND HYDROGEN PEROXIDE IN PURE AND IMPURE WATER AND POTENTIOSTAT IN DEAERATED SUPPORTING ELECTROLYTE. IMPURITY ADDITIONS AND TRANSIENT TEMPERATURETESTING ACCELERATE INTERGRANULAR STRESS CORROSION CRACKING.TESTING IN SUPPORTING ELECTROLYTES OFTEN YIELDS MISLEADING RESULTS.
