摘要
Sulfur inhibition and poisoning of supported palladium, rhodium and iridium catalysts for methane oxidation in air (350-600-degrees-C) have been investigated. All catalysts were affected substantially, but differed in both reduction of activity and subsequent recovery. Above 500-degrees-C, iridium showed reduced inhibition after being partially poisoned. At low temperatures, oxidation of H2S and accompanying oscillatory behaviour were observed. Sulphate (S6+) was detected by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy on poisoned catalysts, and amounts decreased with increasing temperature. Observed charge transfer from palladium, rhodium and iridium is attributed to interactions with sulfate. The influence of adsorbed sulfate species on the catalysts' performance is considered.
