VOLUME-SELECTIVE SOLID-STATE NMR-SPECTROSCOPY

The LOSY sequence for localized NMR spectroscopy is applied to solid materials. The selection of the volume elements is based on solid-state NMR images produced with the aid of the JEPHI sequence. The spatial resolution is limited by the available field-gradient strengths, the transverse relaxation times of the material to be investigated, and the sensitivity of the system. Volume-selective solid-state NMR spectroscopy is expected to be useful for the localized characterization of materials. As an example, the determination of polymer fiber orientations from the shift of the line peak is demonstrated. Other parameters of interest are the diverse species of relaxation. © 1990.
