摘要
Elastic scattering of electrons from heavy, multiply charged ions has been studied at collision energies below 50 eV. Differential cross sections have been measured at scattering angles between 30 degrees and 90 degrees for the ions Xe6+, Xe8+, and Ba2+. In the angular range considered, experimental values deviate strongly from the Rutherford cross section, revealing the importance of short-range contributions to the scattering amplitude. The measured cross sections agree well with theoretical predictions obtained from Hartree-Fock calculations.
