CELLULAR PRECIPITATION AND DISCONTINUOUS COARSENING OF CELLULAR PRECIPITATE IN AN AL-29 AT-PERCENT-ZN ALLOY

摘要
The morphology and growth kinetics have been investigated at temperatures ranging from 323 to 523 K (50 to 250 degree C) by light microscopy, electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. At all aging temperatures the alloy decomposed by a reaction which resulted in a lamellar structure of aluminum rich and zinc rich solid solutions. The discontinuous coarsening reaction occurred at a slower rate and resulted in a coarser structure. Analysis of growth kinetics suggests control by grain boundary diffusivity.
