PROPAGATION OF A SURFACE-WAVE SUSTAINING A PLASMA-COLUMN AT ATMOSPHERIC-PRESSURE

摘要
The propagation of a microwave surface wave is observed along a filamentary argon plasma at atmospheric pressure. The plasma is completely sustained by the propagating wave. Although the collision frequency is about ten times the wave angular frequency, the electron density is high enough so that the resulting conductivity of the plasma filament permits the propagation of the surface wave. The wave dispersion and attenuation diagrams calculated using a cold plasma linear dielectric description are in relatively good agreement with the experimental results.
