A METHOD TO DETERMINE THE SIZE OF SURFACE-ACTIVE PARTICLES FROM HETEROCOALESCENCE SIGNALS AT THE DROPPING MERCURY-ELECTRODE

摘要
Chronoamperometry is proposed as a novel experimental technique for determination of the size of individual surface active particles in aquatic systems by analysis of their heterocoalescence signals at the dropping mercury electrode. Using model dispersions of methyl oleate and squalene in artificial seawater it was found that a range of volumes of surface active particles between 1 and 3000-mu-m3 is accessible to electrochemical analysis.
