THE CORROSION BEHAVIOR OF FE-CR-NI-ZR ALLOYS IN COAL-GASIFICATION ENVIRONMENTS AT HIGH-TEMPERATURES

摘要
Structural Fe-Cr-Ni alloys may be rapidly degraded in mixed gaseous environments at elevated temperatures unless protective oxide scales can be formed and maintained. In an investigation of the corrosion behavior of model alloys based on Fe-25% Cr-20% Ni and Fe-12% Cr-12% Ni in environments containing oxygen and sulfur at 650 and 875 degree C, it is shown that composition plays an important role in preventing rapid degradation. The Cr content affects the ability to form a protective scale, but small additions of Zr(1-6% by weight) promote protective oxide scale formation and enhance scale stability.
