LATTICE CONTRACTION DRIVEN INSULATOR-METAL TRANSITION IN THE D=INFINITY LOCAL APPROXIMATION

We study the effects of lattice contraction on insulator-metal transitions in strongly correlated systems, in the context of the d = infinity, iterated perturbation theory approximation for the half-filled Hubbard model. We compute the phase diagram in the pressure-temperature plane for the paramagnetic metal to paramagnetic insulator transition. We present results for conductivity jumps across the transition and for the variation in conductivity with pressure and temperature in either phase. Our results agree qualitatively with experimental data on transition metal oxides.
