摘要
The changes occurring at the CuPd {110} [85:15] surface accompanying the adsorption of oxygen at 323 K have been probed using forward scattering of Pd 3d5/2 photoelectrons in the {112} azimuth. It is shown that oxygen adsorption causes distinct changes in the short-range order of the surface, which are evidenced by changes in the polar-angle intensity plots obtained. The long-range symmetry of the surface shows no change. These changes are interpreted as the result of surface reconstruction to a missing row structure with no concurrent redistribution of Pd in the selvedge. This represents an observation of an adsorbate-induced reconstruction using angle-resolved photoelectron diffraction.
