QUANTUM SHELL EFFECT ON DISSOCIATION-ENERGIES, SHAPES, AND THERMAL-PROPERTIES OF METALLIC CLUSTERS FROM THE RANDOM-MATRIX MODEL

摘要
We show that a conceptually simple random matrix model of metallic clusters yields dissociation energies which are in very good agreement with both experimental data and results of ab initio calculations. For open shell clusters this model predicts a new phenomenon: a phase transition associated with the loss of spherical symmetry. © 1995 The American Physical Society.
