SITE-SPECIFIC AND STATE-SELECTIVE PHOTOFRAGMENTATION OF MOLECULAR-OXYGEN ON SI(111)-(7X7)

摘要
Molecular oxygen chemisorbed at room temperature on Si(111)-(7 X 7) exhibits a molecular adsorption site which is unexpectedly long lived. Photofragmentation from this specific O-2 adsorption site is studied by correlating the time decay of the corresponding molecular surface state observed in photoemission with the time decay of O+ desorbed photofragments. Photofragmentation occurs via direct nonresonant O2/Si(2 sigma g(-1)) and resonant O-2/Si (2p --> 3 sigma(u) electronic transitions. State selectivity of the photofragmentation is demonstrated by translational energy measurements of the O+ desorbed fragments.
