POTENTIAL FOR CONCENTRATION OF SYNCHROTRON BEAMS WITH CAPILLARY OPTICS

摘要
Total external reflection in glass polycapillaries can be used to guide X-rays of a broad range of photon energies. By employing bent polycapillaries, X-ray beams can be deflected by several degrees. Assemblies of such capillaries can be used to concentrate a parallel beam of X-rays to a small point. Preliminary experimental results achieved using conventional laboratory sources with prototype assemblies of capillaries are compared to theoretical computations using Monte Carlo simulations. Flux gains of two orders of magnitude in a synchrotron experiment are predicted.
