摘要
The growing application of synthetic polymers and materials as surgical devices and prostheses requires a clearer understanding of the interactions at the polymer-tissue interface, particularly in relation to cellular function and organization. This report is a review of data acquired by the author and coworkers over the past few years and supplemented by recent unpublished experimental results. Because of the significance of macrophage lyosomal enzymes at the polymer-tissue interface comments on recent studies of macrophage activity and function have been induced. This review has been written by a ″medical biologist″ primarily for biomaterial scientists from engineering, polymer chemistry, and the medical sciences.
