INVESTIGATION OF STATISTICAL PERTURBATION OF A GAMMA-GAMMA ANGULAR CORRELATION IN 166ER IN DIFFERENT LIQUID SOURCES

Time differential measurements of the 1379-81 keV angular correlation of 166Er have been performed for two liquid sources of different chemical composition. Er+++ in 1 N HCl and Er+++ in 1 N HClO4 at room temperature (T = 22°C). Within the accuracy of these experiments the attenuations can be described by single exponential functions as predicted by the theory of Abragam and Pound. The results are: (i) hydrochloric acid: λ2 = (0.1110 ± 0.0075) · 109-1, λ4 = (0.3146 ± 0.0078) · 109 s-1, λ4 λ2 = 2.84 ± 0.20. (ii) perchloric acid: λ2 = (0.0921 ± 0.0087) · 109 s-1, λ4 = (0.3079 ± 0.0084) 109 s-1 λ4 λ2 = 3.34 ± 0.33. No indication of a Dillenburg-Maris effect was found. Possible influences of complex formations are studied. © 1969.
