GROUPS UNDER UNCERTAINTY - AN EXAMINATION OF CONFIDENCE IN GROUP DECISION-MAKING

This paper examines confidence in decisions that are made by groups under uncertainty. A variety of theoretical perspectives-information processing, motivational, social, and organizational-are used to derive predictions about group confidence and discuss its implications. Confidence assessment data from decision-making groups in various studies by Sniezek and colleagues and others are reviewed. It is argued that theory and research on group decision making can benefit from consideration of a group's confidence in its decision as well as the objective quality of that decision. © 1992.
