Cefepime is a fourth-generation cephalosporin with gram-positive and gram-negative activity, including anti-Pseudomonas activity. It is useful in treating serious infections associated with Pseudomonas aeruginosa, such as nosocomial pneumonias and infections in febrile leukopenic compromised hosts. Because cefepime has low resistance potential and is active against ceftazidime-resistant organisms, it is being used in place of ceftazidime.
