DISTRIBUTION OF CONSTITUENTS AND ENZYME ACTIVITIES IN SUBFRACTIONS OF LIVER MICROSOMES FROM NON-STARVED RATS

Micro-somes of rat liver were fractionated by centrlfugation of a mitochondria free supernatant for 105 min. at 125,000 x gravity through a discontinuous density gradient of 1.8 to 0.8 M buffered sucrose. Microsomal antigens as determined by immunochemical assay were unevenly distributed among the subtractions. Glucose 6-phosphatase activity and cytochrome b5 were present only in the heavy microsomal sub-fractions. These tractions had a RNA/proton ratio of about 0.3. Analytical ultracentrifugation revealed a high proportion of polysomes in the heavy subtractions.
